Digital Media Production
Situated in the centre of the QUT Gardens Point campus (V Block - level 4), Digital Media Production Service provides an affordable, quality printing service primarily engineered for students and staff. We print from most standard graphic formats, including. Photoshop, (best flattened and saved as tif or jpg) Coreldraw, PDF, Word, Powerpoint, Publisher and Illustrator, amongst others. PLEASE NOTE: if using Indesign we have found poor colour accuracy from Indesign created PDF files - we suggest saving as a JPG or TIFF and/or doing a colour proof test before final poster printing.
Our Printing Service has no download fee and in most cases operates within a 2 hour turnaround time for small format and 12 to 24 hours for large format printing. (NOTE: we are closed Weekends and Public Holidays.) If you have any specific requests or would like advice on file preparation please contact us by phone or through our Webform.
Our Online Printing Submission Form is available for you to upload your file to us. For large format prints from Powerpoint, Publisher or Word we produce a proof, which must be sighted and approved first. For large quantity print runs an initial proof must also be sighted before the run will commence.
Please note that priority is given to QUT Jobs, but the service is open to clients outside of the University.
Poster Printing Tips
QPS have put together a page of tips and recommendations for creating your large format and poster sized print jobs.
Large Format Scanning
We can scan your original artwork or drawing up to A0 size in Colour or B&W, at a resolution of up to 600DPI.
Almost any original up to 3mm thick can be scanned to file, note: textured surfaces and ‘paste up’ artwork are not recommended and may result in unsatisfactory reproduction.
There is one thing to consider with any scan: not all colours are correct.
Our scanner is calibrated to a standard test chart and will reproduce most colours to a high level of accuracy. However it is not possible to exactly reproduce all available pigments. For example only ‘Rembrant’ pastels will have a particular pigment which will not be the same as the pigments available in printing inks or screen pixels. Also please consider the following:
Most computer monitors can mathematically generate 16.7million RGB colours - The human eye can distinguish 2.3 million RGB colours - Current print technology can usually correctly print 30% of what we see and approximate the rest.
